One night stand in the cold

I have a KZ MXT 303 toy hauler that I will be using this weekend in South Carolina for a motorcycle race. Temperatures will be around 45F during the day but are predicted to be 22F at night. Fresh, Grey and Black tanks are under the belly of the trailer, they are not insulated or heated. No hookups at the site so will be getting power from a generator and will have to bring water. I live in NC and currently tanks have been drained and water lines have been blown out and Antifreeze is in the PTraps. If I fill the fresh water tank 3/4 full do I need to worry about it freezing and busting the tank. What about black and Grey if they have some water in them will I risk breaking them. The water line that runs from the fresh water tank to the interior pump will be exposed to cold underneath trailer. It is a plastic hose. Do I need to put heat tape on it or will it bust if I let it freeze with water in it. I could skip the fresh water fill and just use gallon jugs for toilet, sinks but that will still put water in the black/grey tanks. Ideally after the race I would like to be able to shower. Went to a race two weekends ago in SC and it was 70 degrees was hoping the cold was done for the season.
  • We have done similar many times in our TH. Temps even lower than that on a few occasions but daytime temps always returned to 40 degrees or so. We ran our genny quite a bit and it seemed to help warm area under our rig that is open to the elements as well.

We camp in those conditions with FW tanks full and do utilize our grey and black tanks. Obviously, if it didn't get above freezing during most of the daylight hours it would be quite risky, and there is no guarantee your rig won't suffer ill effects from doing so under the conditions you outlined above. Enjoy the race!!!
  • We were in Buffalo NY over Christmas, and used gallon jugs of water with no ill effects. We also removed the water filter, which seems to freeze and burst first. We were worried the little water lines running for the fresh water would freeze.
  • I'd feel ok with everything except that fresh water hose. I'd at least wrap that. At least if you did break it, it wouldn't be hard to fix!

Don't skimp on running the furnace. That helps a lot, and leave your HW on.
