One wheel and tire are hot

So I just got my TT serviced, and the brakes were apparently fine. I also greased the bearings. I put new tires on too.

While towing today (second short trip of the year, I thought that the driver's side tire was ever so slightly wobbling, because I could see the change in rotation while driving (through side mirror). I am a paranoid person, so I thought that maybe I was imagining things.

Just to be safe, I felt the tire and outside of the bearing. It was hot for a 30 min drive. As well, I compared to the other side, and it wasn't even close to the same temperature.

I hate to have to bring it in for service again, but I don't think this is safe. What's going on here? I got the tires done at a different place than the rest of the service, so I'm not sure who I should go back to for repairs (if needed). I would rather not pay for something that I JUST paid to get done. Which is more likely the issue? tires? bearings? brakes? I don't get it.

Thanks

  • IF you don't know how to do brakes/bearings etc. take it back to the place that serviced the brakes.
You have a bad bearing, blown grease seal or brake shoes dragging excessively.

    Noticeable tire wobble........suspect bad bearing
  • You most likely did not properly tighten the bearing-race for that wheel. It sounds like it is too tight. Or that you possibly flat-sided some of the bearings in that race. If the heat is felt in the hub it is the bearing-race and not the brakes.
  • From your description, I would say you have an improper bearing adjustment. I would take it back to that guy. If you have the ability to get that wheel up off the ground, grab the tire at 9 and 3 o'clock and wiggle the tire back and forth and side to side feeling for excessive bearing play. That should give you an idea of the bearing adjustment.
  • How hot is hot,..........?????
if you saw the " wheel wobble "........and that side.... is significantly hotter than the other side ,then it sounds like your bearings were not done properly or are loose.

If you're not capable of doing this yourself then find a reputable place and have it checked.

YES! Often service is worse than no service at all. You need to do it yourself or learn what is required and watch others do it.
