Oooopps!! Finally had to unhook in tight spot.

After seven years and 50k finally had to unhook the dolly and toad in a tight spot. Pulled into a gas station and found no room to swing into the pumps. Tried to go around the back of the station and found there was no back! Unloaded the car, unhooked the dolly. Pulled the DP over to the street. Manhandled to dolly back to the DP about 70' away. Hooked everything back up. 15 min later we were on our way and not a single person had offered to help as I was dragging the dolly through the islands at the station. Told DW... I don't need a lecture. Hasn't been mentioned yet. :B

  • It does happen even to the best of us. On a few occassions I broke my own rule of walking the fueling stop before pulling in. Had to unhook and push the dolly around, or now I have to unhook, put the fuse back in the toad and drive around. Guess I've been lucky in that people seem willing to help or move out of the way...or maybe I just look more needy than others.
Just part of the RV experience.
    Happy Trails.

At 60+ and a 600 lb dolly, it was controlling me quite well! :B
  • I'd say that is not a bad track record. Yes, when towing a toad you definitely have to "think ahead", but sometimes situations get the best of us. In my 7 years and 30K miles, I have only had to disconnect twice, but in my case towing 4-down, so no need to wrestle the dolly.

  • Glad you made it safe.

On our way back from PA to home in FL.
There was a guy & his wife pulling the tow dolly back to there rv I got the wife to finsh up the fuel for the truck and I went over and helped out.

I got stuck in a lot on the way to GA right after we got our 5th wheel and a nice older guy came over and helped me back up and gave me a ton of backing info too.
