opening an rv dealership.

Hello,
I was wondering if you could make money by flipping rv's for profit from craigslist or dealers auctions. Buying them at craigslist or dealers auction fix them and flip for profit. I know people flip cars through craigslist and auctions. How much money do you need to start a dealership for trailers and class B and C motorhomes. I have little money to start $20,000.

X2 - I think the saying about if you want to make a million dollars in the airline business, start out with 3 million applies here also.

If you have the necessary resources ( money, facilities, personnel, etc) perhaps you could start out small with just one unit and see how that works for you.

Not saying it can't be done, but most RV dealerships I have seen are big box sizes, but perhaps some of them started out small also..

    Good luck.
  • RV's take space and people with surplus cash just to fuel them.

Cars, Trucks, ATVs, Chainsaws, etc are filled all of the time on ebay, craigslist, etc. I know one guy with an ebay based used car parts business.

Business is harder than most think that have not down it before. Best if luck.
  • we have a friend who flips 4 wheelers does all right kind of a hobby that pays a little, rarely pays more than several hundred, the market is good for low end machines.lots don't need much, just sitting in shed no longer used. ken
  • With only $20K, I'd think you'd be better off flippng cars or trucks since they have a much higher volume than on MHs.

Do you have any experience with MHs such as how they operate or in fixing what will probably be a lot of little things on a $20K MH?

Do you have expience fixing appliances - microwaves, refers, heaters, furnaces, power converters, cabinets, plumbing, toilets, sinks, electrical problems both 12V and 120 volt?

Can you work on it and store it at your house while trying to sell it?

What if you buy one and then find something that you can't fix yourself and then you have to pay an RV shop $100 to $125 and hour to work on it? What if you find it has a bad engine, transmission, refrigerator, etc. Can you cover the expenses? Is there a good MH repair shop near you?

If the tires and batteries are totaly shot, can you afford to put new ones on it?

If you can handle the above situations, I'd think you need to have at least $400K so you could afford several different styles and sizes of MHs.

I'm not saying you can't flip a $20K MH and make a profit, but have yoi thought of all of the above? Others will bring up points I've missed. I think you'd be better off flipping cars.
