lol. I'm on both sides of the fence.
I'd probably think about just packing it & go with it.
BUT otoh, a new axle, with brakes $235. Get the new one.
You say the old one appears to be bent. By the time you get it out, check it for "true", you're money ahead to just replace it. YMMV
