I had a GMC Savanah Van with the 5.3 motor. We have a 26ft travel trailer that weighs about 5900 lbs. We went to Yellowstone last May and had no problems pulling it with that motor. You need to learn what your truck is rated to tow, get the correct weight distributing hitch set up with a brake controller. I would suggest doing some short shake down trips to learn the ropes and see if there are any problems before you embark on a long trip. There are many videos that show you how everything works and even how to do repairs. Like others have said, most campgrounds in the warmer parts of Florida get booked real early. If you would just want to stay in South Carolina or Georgia ,you'll have more luck, although the weather will go from 80's to 30's at times.
