The Champion 4000 is definitely in a different category than the 3000-3400 watt inverters.
I have a Champion 4000. Noise aside, it easily starts my A/C (there is a brief bit for about half a second where it pauses, then the compressor starts, but a lot less than the bogging down my previous generator had. It also seems to be very simple and reliable.
However, the noise is so off-putting that once I get myself a replacement inverter generator that can start my RV's A/C, the 4000 watt Champion will be relegated to backup duty.
