Opinions on heat strip for A/C - UPDATED with Results

I've been thinking of getting a heat strip for the A/C for Christmas and I want help deciding. I've read here that the heat is pretty negligible so they aren't worth it. Here is why we are thinking...

In my experience the are as good as most space heaters. About 5,000 BTU each. For knocking the chill of they work well, but they are not a furnace, and should not be expected to heat like one.
