Opinions on heat strip for A/C - UPDATED with Results

I've been thinking of getting a heat strip for the A/C for Christmas and I want help deciding. I've read here that the heat is pretty negligible so they aren't worth it. Here is why we are thinking...

We have a 23' coach. When I bought the new A/C unit, I got the electric heater option. If we have electric power, it can keep the coach comfortable to about 40°F. Much below that and it just doesn't make it.
For the cost, it is a good option to have. The only problem is that if we are on 30 amp electric, we have to pay attention to power loads.
