Opinions on heat strip for A/C - UPDATED with Results

I've been thinking of getting a heat strip for the A/C for Christmas and I want help deciding. I've read here that the heat is pretty negligible so they aren't worth it. Here is why we are thinking...

I had heat strip in my former trailer. I used it under one scenario-when the night wasn't cold enough to get out my portable electric heater. But I needed something to take the chill off when I got up. They heat with about the same effectiveness as a 1500 watt portable heater. But with more noise and higher fan speed so the air discharged is only lukewarm. Mine didn't have thermostat on the heat strip so it was best run under supervision.

Bottom line useful under limited conditions.
