Opinions on heat strip for A/C - UPDATED with Results

I've been thinking of getting a heat strip for the A/C for Christmas and I want help deciding. I've read here that the heat is pretty negligible so they aren't worth it. Here is why we are thinking...

I think a free standing space heater will do you more good than the heat strip.
Since heat rises, a heat source close to the floor is more beneficial.
We had one in our truck camper and, as was stated, only took the chill off.
