I've stopped loaning things out, with a few rare exceptions. I'm just too cranky to have to deal with things not being right when I go to use them. The last time I loaned out my sheet rock lift, the guy said he would return it in a few days. Several weeks went by and not even a call. After a month, I called and left him a message, asking him what happened, why had he not returned my tool. He did not call for a few days and then called and asked if I was going to be home, sure I was and he brought it back.. mentioned something about being snowed in.. All he had to do was call and let me know it was taking longer than expected or whatever was going on... Someday I will likely encounter him again wanting to borrow something and it will not be available... My daughter and son-in-law wanted to borrow my flooring nailer and I told them I don't loan tools, but would make an exception, making sure they know the value of the tool in case they had to purchase a replacement.
