Jesus would know if the were lying and scamming, I don't have that power. So on the flip side WWJD if they were lying, scamming and stealing money from good, honest people?
Forget the taxes, the government, and all of that...
Let's break it down to it's most simple aspect...
What would Jesus do?
Would Jesus turn away the truly mentally ill homeless people?
Yes or no?
How do you know who is truly mentally ill?
According to rockhillmanor, those who are "truly homeless" seek "shelter and take advantage of ALL that is offered by the government, churches, etc."
Anyone who does not do all of the above is not "truly homeless," according to rockhillmanor.
Again, what would Jesus do? - Gale_HawkinsExplorer

Kick the money traders out of the temple.
That can be deadly.
This thread started out about an RV'er asking for gas. There was no request for money or any signs to mental illness or bring homeless.
Some posts are quite revealing. - Paul_ClancyExplorerKick the money traders out of the temple.

Pretty simple don't need statistics. The shelters do not allow drugs or alcohol. The true homeless down on their luck DO utilize the shelters and are NOT on the street at night.....the remainder are, I.E. the ones that will not give up their drugs/alcohol for the night for a warm bed to sleep in.
How do you define "true homeless" or "down on their luck?"
The ones that seek shelter and take advantage of ALL that is offered by the government, churches, etc. There are more shelters than there are homeless.
That is how you define "true homeless," huh? Only those who "seek shelter" or "take advantage of the government" offerings are the "true homeless" according to you, right?
Wow.
I have STILL not seen anyone explain how to deal with those on the streets who are truly mentally ill (which is a large population).
Again...Also, you did not address the fact that homeless Americans are 4-5 times more likely to suffer from mental illness than the regular population. As I posted earlier, telling many of them to "go seek out the available resources" is often no different than me telling you to rebuild an engine by reading a comic book.

I know that I don't give to the professional street corner beggars around where I work. The mission is only two blocks away and open to all.I give to the mission regularly, it is up to the beggars whether or not they use the services the mission offers.
X10 - Paul_ClancyExplorerCommon site at wm in gilroy ca last summer was teen girl and boys on a corner with a tiny gas can (saw a carful pull up and start workin the lot). They don't really want gas just $$$
- Gale_HawkinsExplorerRemember there may be a difference when a person is asking for gas MONEY and asking for gas with an empty tank. At $1.80 a gallon most are not going to drain it back out and try to sell it. If you give cash to a stranger who knows what it will be buying.
- NJRVerExplorerReminds me a few years ago in a hotel parking lot in Rocky Mount, NC a guy comes up to me in the dark saying he needed gas money to back to the navy base in Norfolk.
Sorry, can't help you.
Then one year later we were in our TT at a campground a little farther down I95 around Smithfield, NC.
It was early Sunday morning and I was gassing up at one of those 24hr stations with no attendant. It was right at the ramp for I95.
Darned if that same guy who tried to scam me a year earlier in Rocky Mount tried the same line about needing gas money to get to Norfolk navy base.
Sorry, can't help you.
Hmmm, needed money for gas to get to Norfolk. So what does he do....but get right on I95 southbound. I noticed his white Chevy pickup had SC tags on it. - leeperExplorerDoesn't anyone know that different people tell the same story in many different parts of the country? They get plenty of education on how to beg or scam others while living on the streets. The one about being on the way to a hospital and running out of gas is a very common line to use. It works!
