Hi I camp at State Parks and I use indoor/outdoor carpet cut to length of my awning and Never had issues with it. I mainly 3-4 day camp but have gone 2 weeks and when I left no "dead" grass But I am in a TT and if it's wet it goes into my truck bed. I don't use mine as much now as I am now disabled and the sites are concrete. But YES I do believe if left down long enough it will kill the grass regardless of type used.
