oven use in travel trailer

Would like advice on temperature settings when using the oven. We used it once on our previous unit with a frozen pizza. Used recommended temp setting and ended up with burnt crust and uncooked topping. Help!! Currently use the oven for morning toast and baked potatoes.

  • We use ours to cook cornbread in a cast iron pan. 450 degrees. Works great. We have heard IF you place a LARGE CERAMIC TILE IN THE BOTTOM OF THE OVEN. it disperses the heat more evenly
  • You did put the pizza on a rack in the oven and not on the base under which the burner sits, right?

Get an oven thermometer (a cheap mechanical one should do fine) and see what the temperature is vs. the set temperature on the dial. You can then convert manually as needed, or often take the oven control knob off and adjust a little screw on the gas control valve behind it to get the temperature calibration closer to correct. It sounds as though it may be too high.

I've heard good reports of putting something like a pizza stone or a suitably sized unglazed ceramic tile in the bottom of the oven to add some thermal mass and help even out the temperature.
  • Keep searching this Forum for `oven' and you will find very few people use it for cooking. We use it for storage. We use the toaster over frequently and cook pizza in a fry pan but after it has thawed.
