My very first jobs were waiting tables, and I learned to be very particular about what I put on my feet- a lesson I've adhered to ever since. Due to very substantial lifestyle changes I now wear Double J high-topped laceup boots almost exclusively. Probably not the best choice for warehouse work, though if ankle support is an issue they have no equal.
That said:
The second most important lesson I learned while waitressing was the value of support stockings! I found that if I wore "light support" pantyhose every day to work my back/legs were much less tired at the end of the day.
