Pay it Forward Private Campsite Swap

My wife and I would like to explore different parts of the country for a few days at a time. The cost of a commercial campground can really add up, especially when you don't care about all the extras like swimming pools and such, and only use your camper for a home base when you're not out exploring. I wonder if there are any groups in existence where country folks can offer you a place to dry camp for little or no money. In exchange, you offer your hospitality to others.

We have several spots on our farm in southern Ohio where folks could park a camper for a few days at a time. There are several water hydrants around the farm, and some of them even have electric nearby. Sure beats a Wal-Mart parking lot. What do you think? Do such exchange groups already exist and I have not found them?
  • I hate to be a wet blanket here, but were I to allow people a spot to camp, I'd probably spring for an umbrella insurance policy. They are relatively cheap. This way, if one of the people staying there trips over a crack in the sidewalk and files a lawsuit, you are covered.
  • Don't forget about the Senior Pass if you or spouse are 62 so you can stay at COE and some Natl Forest CGs for 1/2 price. Ends up being about $10-15 range/night. Most have W&E sites & dump station available.
  • I heard of one called Harvest Hosts.

    Hope this helps.
  • There is an organized group and website of people that have space and/ or developed space on their property for passers thru. Problem is I can't remember the site.

Try this question over on RVForums. I'm pretty sure that where I saw the link several years ago
  • Check out Boondockers Welcome.com We joined recently and have yet to use other members hospitality but plan to this summer.
