How long are you planning to use the generator (camping) in the US?
If it is bought for use in the US, no problem on the US side.
If you cross the border, buy it for use in CA, then declare it for sure.
My fuzzy memory recalls a discussion with a border agent quite a while ago about items purchased and used (or consumed) while in CA and if staying there for at least xyz time....
That was coming the other direction, from CA to US and I can't recall enough details to be authoritative.
Maybe someone can help with the details and what may have changed?
Another related question. Would you have to declare a tire if you had a blowout in the US and had it replaced? What if when replacing it you saw the others were all old and got a complete set? And if you spent a month in the US before returning, would it make a difference?
It was much easier when the US and CA were friends. But don't worry, an election is coming soon enough and we can be friends again :B
