Paying for two sites

one of our favorite sites is a forest service site(no fees,user maintained) on a great fishing lake.we always take the 2 spots side by side beside the boat launch.there's a total of 6 sites on this end of the lake.when/if the sites are occupied with 4 campers,we move our stuff out of one site,because its the civilized,respectful thing to do.if nobody else shows up and claims it so be it,we still have some space.

RUDE ... that's too funny. A person is paying for two sites and who are you to say how they use them. Sometimes it's amazing to see someone wanting to impose their standards on someone else. I would rather see someone renting two sites and being able to spread out than to be overcrowded on one smaller site and then spilling over or encroaching on someone else's site.

200% agree! I pay for it I will use it how I wish. The camp ground makes the money no matter how you use it. We only do paid when raveling and make a over night stop. But I hope I park next to the guy that does this, I will also get more space being on the side of them :)

That said we leave town to relax and want our space so we boon-dock very far away from anywhere someone else would come.

We thought about it after our last trip to the Grand Canyon. Guy across from us started running his generator at about 2:30 pm, far before the designated generator times. I did mention to him about the designated times and his response was "they are quiet generators". What I believe was his revenge, he played his radio fairly loud 4 hours a day in the evening. His site was one that his entry door was on the side away from the fire ring and table. I thought maybe he could open the window on that side and close the doors to not disturb everyone around. He also left his dog run off leash when in his camp, contrary to rules too.

I was thinking we should rent both sites and just put a cheap tent on the site. He was just as selfish as those that like a little privacy.

I have often wondered about this. Now that we are longer, we find that we are too long for many open spots at state parks.. If we could take 2 spots end to end - we would fit and not really impact anyone else (but the guy that didn't get there before us). Really wouldn't mind sharing the longer (2) site with a small unit either since we wouldn't be using that sites electric. Side to side isn't usually a problem.

I can't believe people are so angry. Would it be the same in a hotel? Or when snowbirds make the same reservation for their favorite state park on the end of the 11th month at midnight so that they get the same site every year?

It's a business, and if the park allows it, what's wrong with that? Are they really taking a site from you if the park isn't full? Better that than have a neighbor who might complain all weekend because of who's next door.

Please let me reiterate we only do second spot when CG is half full the Wed before we arrive on Friday, if it's more than half full we stay away these sites were built back during the CCC days only the bathrooms have been updated.

However we NEVER go to places that are crowded

Why go camping if there are folks 20ft away unless they are part of your party?

I think in this case it was in the best interest for everyone to take the extra spot. Can't see anyone arguing against that.

I'm not sure what to think about the OP's situation. I get it that the spots are small but apparently not so small that others don't want to use the campsite--else this topic wouldn't exist. I understand the desire to have more space but I also understand that space is often in short supply and at a public facility needs to be shared. Being able to pay more to get more is fine at a private for-profit facility, But it doesn't sit right with me at a state campground. No disrespect intended.
