carbuyingguide.com has a write up on this stuff dealers hate this site. I'll try to summerize what i remember. Sales people are always looking for leverage to yield them the most $$, that's their job and i would do it too. If they ask for a license, CC or SS# they want to know your credit rating. One dealer wanted my license and i asked why they said to verify i was ok to take for a test drive but they copied it too. I asked when i rent a car they don't do that so why does a dealer do it. They have you DOB. They cannot run your credit without your signature but they do anyway and then if you can prove it(each time your report is run your score goes down) they broke the law per I believe the FTC. see ftc.gov So once they know what you can afford they tender the deal for you but not in your favor. Those dealerships are nice places they get that way by making money off you and me. fair is Fair but using questionable tacktics is not this seems like a questionable dealer.
