From my experience so far, the only downside to PenFed's 5% fuel discount credit card is how you get the discount: You can't get it back through a direct credit to your monthly bills ... like you can with many 1%/2%/3% fuel discount credit cards. You have to take your "noncash" fuel discount reward points in the form of a prepaid debit card PenFed sends you that you use to make purchases with until the debit card's prepaid amount is gone. And ... if you have PenFed send you your reward points prepaid debit credit card only once a year like we do, the size of this prepaid amount can be quite large (100's of dollars). Now ... if you then use this prepaid debit credit card at gas pumps during RV trips for "free gas" ... you're NOT getting the 5% fuel discount for these purchases while using up the reward-points prepaid debit card's balance.
