Not true ... in our case.
We occasionally and intentionally run unpaid PenFed credit card balances at the ends of months here and there to smooth out cash flows for worry-free living on a "fixed" income that, in fact, is not always exactly fixed. We'd do this regardless of any reward points. IMHO, this way is one of the ways to correctly and intentionally use credit.
The $500-$600 reward points debit card we ask for from PenFed at the end of each year is more than the monthly-over-runs total interest hit from PenFed at the end of each year.
