I think you are probably stuck with the situation and need to pray for no rain while you are there.
For me, I would probably pull up my mat, wash it off and put it in storage. I'd put a small rug just at the bottom of the steps to collect most of the dirt and grime from being walked into the camper.
Yes, there are some things you can put under the mat, but they are expensive for just a few days or even a few weeks.
You're camping.....don't sweat the small stuff. Enjoy the great outdoors and if it rains, stomp in the mud.

I think I would leave the mat down, to keep from sinking in, and put the small rug on top at the step. The mat will be no harder to clean later.
