The microwave is a 22" Dometic, apparently made by LG. It is an over the range model & we want to keep the light & fan features. The closest LG version is no longer made. I was hoping for a choice that doesn't involve rebuilding the cabinet... Thanks!
Umm.. you do realize that you CAN buy NEW RV RANGE HOODS?
You didn't try very hard.
22" wide RV range hoodfor $70
Amazon search HERE
Dogpile search HERE
You can find them from 20" to 24" wide, ducted and non ducted, white, black and stainless..
If you can't find a color to suit you then paint over it with appliance epoxy paint..
Remove the old junker, build a shelf for the new home microwave and mount the new range hood to the underside of the new shelf..
$70 for the new hood, $50 for a home microwave, $10 in lumber and an evening of work.. Being able to replace a bad microwave in the future anywhere = PRICELESS.. - RVcrazyExplorerThe microwave is a 22" Dometic, apparently made by LG. I remember people mentioning 2 places where you could find surplus RV parts for discontinued items. We are looking for a 24" microwave and would like to get info to contact them. Thanks!
Do yourself a huge favor, skip the "RV" microwaves, not much stuff designed for RVs are made of any substantial quality and cost many times more than it should.
Take your measurements to the nearest Walmart, Lowes, Home Depot or other retail stores closest to you and find a microwave that comes closest to your sizes without being too big to fit..
If it is a over the range type, consider building a shelf and putting the new microwave on the shelf over the range..
Plenty of ways you can bolt a home micro down to prevent it from moving, just have to be a bit creative.. - wa8yxmExplorer IIIFor Microwaves check those out but don't be scared about BEST BUY
how to select a BEST BUY microwave
The place where the microwave is mounted determins one of the things you need to consider.. Is it "Open" or is it "enclosed" and vented. If it's enclosed and vented, as mine is supposed to be (it's open just now) then there may be duct work on your existing microwave to direct hot, moist steam laden air to the vents.. If So whatever microwave you buy to replace it will need to be modified in much the same manner. (A HEAVAC contractor can bend custom ductwork for you)
Second, Size,,, make sure it fits
Beyond that nothing special about an RV microwave
BEST BUY is "Generic" for all Appliance stores - DutchmenSportExplorerYou might try this one. Factory RV Surplus
