I believe you are mistaken, I am about 99% certain police vehicles are not required to be marked in Michigan.
Detectives and admin often drive "Unmarked" (Which are clearly police cars to someone like me.. But then I've seen so many I know what to look for)
But they do NOT do traffic stops.
PATROL cars are either marked, or "Semi Marked" (Shield on one side only) I've seen a few of those too..
Thankfully if I see 'em in my rear view they are either one: Getting ready to pass me or 2: Parked (I used to park in the same parking lot after all).
Of course MSP also uses AIR SPEED timing. They park an aircraft (either a plane or 'chopper) over a stretch of international speedway and units on the ground write the tickets.
Early one week they did that not far from me (Closer to home than work. Closer still to where my wife worked) wrote 85 tickets minimum speed 85 MPH top violation 105 (55 zone at the time I think faster now)
A few days later (Same week) they parked the OTHER type of aircraft in about the same spot.. 85 tickets minimum 85 MPH and why do I think it was the same IDIOT going 105?
I did not dispatch that but they used my "Tac-2" channel so I heard the detail.
