Why do we speed... There is a science fiction publican (Isaac Asimov's Science Ficion Magazine) that had or has a regular feature called "Probility Zero" Usually about 2 pages.
I still recall one of them.. This is the very short version.. The "Setting" is the same for the entire story but the time progresses.. Two researchers on a faster than light travel project commuting to/from work sharing a single car.
THey are talking about the problems and also the cars that pass them. Congress keeps raising the speed limit but someone always passes them like they are standing still
WHY. >Because AMERICANS have a GOD GIVEN RIGHT to speed (Folks I read this likey in the 1980's so ...)
Well one of 'em has a bright idea. They talk to Congress and the speed limit is raised again. of course the sign needs to be a bit bigger to hold the new speed limit (IN KPH it's 300,000,000 Kilometers per second) and 2 weeks later we had our first Faster Than Light car.. Because AMERICANS have a GOD GIVEN right to speed (IN case you don't know metrics that's the speed of light very very very slightly rounded up). (2.99999997 or somethign like that not sure of hte number of nines).
