been working long hard hrs for many a decade. got it easy now. only 50 hrs aweek ( in 4 days) sleep at least one day off away.

anything to do? I guess that's up to you but I can tell you that iam busier now than when I was working. my father-in-law sat on his couch and watched TV all day and had less than a year in retirement. that's not me. I will have an occasional 'personal holiday' where I don't do much of anything but those are rare. and just because you'll be forced to retire doesn't mean you have to stop working. if it gives you true pleasure than find another job or volunteer. hopefully you've been planning for this day and have your post-retirement finances in order...you know, the 3-legged stool concept. pension + investment + social security = comfy retirement.

There are bloated state governments and lean state governments. They all collect taxes and or fees. Some get you coming and going. Some try to tax you after you leave.
You may want to google cheapest states to retire in. If you plan to fulltime RV check out the three states that most fulltimers domicile in TX, FL, SD.

Retirement for many, is their final career. As with any career you need to plan for it and that includes financially, lifestyle, activities, etc. Most people work their entire lives dreaming about retirement and when they get there realize they didn't plan for it. They may find themselves short on finances or bored with little or nothing to do. Those people don't usually enjoy retirement and many don't last long in it, either opting to go back to work or end up pushing up daisies.

What worked for me was not only laying out a financial and activity plan for my retirement, but also changing my lifestyle to how I thought I'd live in retirement years before I got there, i.e. while I was still working and could fine tune it. That got me into a comfortable lifestyle financially that I knew would work just fine when I entered retirement. Activity wise I assembled a long list of things I wanted to work on and do at home and with my time; my retirement ToDo list. And the last thing I did was to pay off everything while I was still working and purchase all my retirement toys and get them paid off too.

When retirement came it was a very easy transition with no financial surprises. Like others here I've found my ToDo list has kept me busier than when I was being paid to work. In fact, for the past few years the ToDo list has grown a bit faster than the Done list, but that's fine - it gives me more to do in the future.

I do live in Texas and have for the past 35+ years. We have no State income tax, but we have property taxes however they are basically frozen when you turn 65. (There are some details about this that one needs to be aware of though.) We do have sales taxes as well, but all things considered the cost of living isn't all that bad. Costs will vary depending on where you live in Texas. Property taxes vary by location as do insurance rates on things like homes and RVs.

After you pay the purchase sales tax there’s only yearly CA registration. What high RV taxes?

You will have to pay some sales tax to register a vehicle in Tennessee. But the fee to license a car, truck or motor home can be as low as $30 a year to as high as $90 a year depending on county.
No state income tax. Sales tax on about everything, can from about 8% to almost 10% depending on county and city.

Here in Montana, ALL vehicles 11 years old or older can have PERMANENT license plates. No renewal, ever, as long as you own it. However, Amateur Radio Operators can not get the PERMANENT sticker for their call sign license plates, because their FCC license expires every ten years!
ALL trailers, regardless of size or type, also get PERMANENT license plates, as do all motorcycles (including street-legal ATVs).
We also have no sales tax. If it is ever passed, it is limited by the Constitution to 4%. However, we do have a State Income Tax.
Just something to think about.
The PERMANENT tab will cost about 3 years taxes. My motorhome and ATVs have it, but the budget wouldn't handle it for the truck this year, and the car will get it at the next registration date.

Not having tv is the smartest thing I did also,,the advertisments would drive me nuts..
I like to travel once or twice a year for a change of scene,,but prefer living in a house,,did enough rving when chasing after work..

I bought my house fairly cheap 75Gs and taxes and utilitys are only 400 a month..Im in south Ontario medium size city..
Retirement would be boring if I didnt have my gardening in summer,,plus I like to exercise every day to keep in shape..also renovating my TC..
And modifying my hot rod..thinking about building electric one..
Also learning japanese language as I like to travel there ocasionaly,
Fascinating country.

Doing many diferent hobies is what keeps mind and body fit..
Look at old pres.Jimy Carter who stil works at 93 years of age building houses for poor people ..
