Please leave it at home!

Just got back from a 4 day weekend. Weather was beautiful and campground was only about 20% full and then "that guy" decided to park next to us.

Nice enough couple but then he got out some kind of air rifle and shot a wire up about 60' into a tree. It was his shortwave or ham radio antenna. I don't know enough about them as to which it was. We got to spend 3 of the 4 days listening him tune the radio up and down through howling and screeching and of course all the loud talking. Day 2 I politely asked if he would use a headset or turn it down as the screeching was ear piercing and even had a dog howling 10 sites down. He said nothing, walked over and turned the volume up. He did turn it off during quiet hours so I did not say anything to the rangers even though I'm certain the wire in the tree would have been frowned on.

I would never touch someone else's property but when they left for awhile I sat there contemplating taking some wire cutters to the antenna. I have never experienced a noise that cut to my soul like the screeching did while he tuned that radio. The screech would last 20 minutes at a time. We even had to sit around the fire with earplugs!!!! How can he and his family hear this non stop high frequency screeching without hearing loss? The large antenna on his truck would indicate that they endure it on the road as well.

I understand hobbies and how involved people can get. Radio hobbyist may need to explain this to me but please if you take it camping, please take a headset!!!!!
