My brother gave me a 12' porta boat. I don't want to haul it on the side of my 5th wheel. I was thinking about either on top or underneath between the landing gear. I can figure out the top if needed but was wondering if any of you have seen or stored one underneath your rv. I tried past threads but they are too old and pics are no longer there. I carry my 14' Porta bote beneath my fiver simply secured with ratchet straps. I have carried Bote that way for the last 5 years without issue

when we had a Porta Bote we went through the same "how are we going to take this thing with us" thought process .... we decided against mounting it to the side of our camper due to slide configurations .... installing a carrier and bracket on the back of the camper to carry it vertically but ours would have extended to far above the roof .... for me the roof was out, too much effort involved in putting it up there and taking it down .... that only left under the camper .... as with the one pictured above, that ended up doing OK .... biggest problem was the amount of road grime that builds up on the boat required a great deal of cleaning .... a Porta Bote is a great idea but for me, it proved to be way too much work for what I got out of it and I was most happy the day it was soldJim

The bote is very durable any dirt just comes right off. The bigger issue with carrying the bote underneath is getting my less than limber body underneath the trailer to crawl around and load and unload the bote.Securing the bote requires shimming and sliding along the ground, which may be wet,muddy,sharp,rocky etc. depending on campsite.Don't get me wrong carrying bote underneath works well, but it requires effort to secure and remove bote.The good part about underneath storage is the bote stays beneath the trailer the entire camping season. I don't load and unload the bote when I get home. I leave bote underneath the trailer at all times. Some trips I use it some I don't however the bote is never in the way. You really can't tell the bote is beneath the trailer.

What about putting it on a rack on top of the truck?

When I had a TT. I put my outboard in a large plastic tub and transported it inside the RV.

Great idea with the tub method, I found a sturdy tub at Lowes that will work perfect........
I have a 12ft porta-boat, really like the idea's on the forum of flat packing underneath TT, after our vacation that will be my next project.

for crawling under truck or trailer, I use a piece of coroplast. Works good even on gravel. YMMV.

the outfit, used to be in montana, that had the automatic load a boat on top setup also sold a very neat bracket that mounted on the rear/side of the truck bed. could pull it out to hang motor on it, then tilt it horizontal and slide it on the bracket into the truck bed. if you are carrying that outboard, be sure to completely drain the water out of it and store the power head higher than the water input screen.

instead of rollers, check out the teflon? (or some other slippery stuff) in the Bass Pro Shops catalog designed to be put on boat trailer bunks.

I haven't quite convinced myself I need to put a lot of effort into fabricating a roller rack, however if Bote were more convenient to get out and put away. I imagine I would use it more often.

Here’s how we carry our 12 foot porta bote.

I installed a 10 foot aluminum roller table under our toy hauler.

The boat rolls in and out effortlessly.

I created a V shape bracket up front (made of simple 1 inch wide aluminum straps), too hold the boat up front. The boat slides in all the way, till it stops. Without the straps, the boat would keep rolling right off the table.

In the back of the roller table, I created an aluminum panel, that holds the boat in, alone with ratcheting straps.

I had a hitch shop (Spillar Custom Hitch of Austin Texas), custom build the rear support bracket, that’s wielded to the frame. The bracket is made of 3 inch tubular steel, and has 2 heavy duty steal roller wheels attached to help on low entrances. For about 3 years, only two driveways used the roller bars (as far as I know), with no problems at all. The whole assemble is about 1 1/2 inchs below the license plate.

If you look for roller tables, get the aluminum versions. The steel version are too heavy. The table is attached to the bottom of my toy hauler frame using metal brackets I created.

That enclosed container is the only way to go if you got room under there. I'm not much into laying under the trailer strapping and unstrapping. Solves the road dirt issue as well. Thanks for sharing.

I was thinking, if you got a long piece of rectangular galvanized air vent, it could be totally enclosed. I notice that the one in the picture is open at the top.
