These icemakers are not freezers in anyway at all. They make ice cubes and nothing else. You cannot put anything in them and expect them to stay frozen. If you had one you would understand this.

We had two rigs with the ULine separate ice makers and used them as freezers quite a bit..so I guess it all depends on what brand you buy.....Dennis

I have the smaller version made by igloo that makes 26# a day with about a 2LB basket capacity. It is correct to say it is not a freezer, just an ice maker and as the ice it makes melts it falls into the resevior and makes more. The smaller version is good for 2 maybe 3 people max if everyone is using a lot of ice for drinks. For me it was pefect for the smaller size.

The larger one a friend has that he got from camping world and its good for 4-5 people. So far I have seen it from Dometic and Newair with a 50# per day cycle and I want to say a 5# basket capacity as its a little more then double the little one I got.

Not so, we still have the broken Emerson Ice maker. Target said we had to send it back to manufacturer,at our cost. The Dometic is larger with a one gallon water resevior. The Dometic wil drop ice 7 minutes after it's turned on and the Emerson was never that fast.

Four bags of ice in a cheap throw away cooler has always keep me and my friends in cold ones! Just don't see the need for an ice maker.

This is me w/ the exception of the throwaway cooler. A cooler w/ lots of insulation makes me happiest. And chipping away on an ice block with a picker makes me happier still:).

I have compared my Dometic to the Target brands and there is a huge difference IMO. Four years on the road without a hiccup. If it wasn't bouncing around in the trailer all the time I would have purchased the cheaper one though..

Got ours for free. Just by chance, we got a flyer from the camper store saying that if you bought an RV that day, you got a free ice maker. We had already negotiated the deal and set up closing on that date long before the add came out. Just luck.
