- JimExplorerI spent 12 years without a toad and when I bought this '02 with it's 330HP engine it was time to get one because there is enough power to pull it easily. My old Bounder couldn't pull anything over 1300 lbs per the book.
So I researched toads and had a list of brands that would work for me. I spent a couple months traveling in the new2me RV without one and checking Craig's List where ever I was for one of those on my list. It's difficult to find something worth having but finally found a Saturn in good condition with only 60,000 miles. Color sort of matched my RV too.
Here's a link to my blog that covers all that had to be done to it after I bought it. Has some links to several articles that help you decide whether the vehicle is towable.
It gets expensive quick if you have a shop do all the work it takes to allow a vehicle to be towed. Well worth it though.

Ease-of-use wise, four flat wins hands down. Once the base plate and wiring are done, towing is a matter of hooking up the tow bar, the safety chains/cable and the umbilical cord. No worries about where to store the dolly/trailer when you get to where you're going.
The only glitch is if you don't own a car that you can tow 4 down.
