posting a topic

The topic that I posted, I did not read on RV.net. I hadn't been on it for days due to being in hospital.
There was no political agenda other thaan reporting a citizen being abused.
  • When you get down to it, it had nothing to do with a gun or permits…

it’s a one sided and unsubstantiated story from a writer with a distinctly conservative point of view…

ABOUT: Tom Jackson: from the very paper the article first appeared in…
Tom Jackson’s baseball card — if he had one — would report he throws left, writes right. In his columns and blog, “The Right Stuff,” southpaw Jackson provides insight into the evolving human condition from a distinctly conservative point of view.

What kind of journalist would write a story of this nature and not check the circumstance himself…

Yep, one where the story true or not, supports his own views and a story that will take on a life of its own by others that want to believe it in the blogosphere where it will never stop being spread, and truth or facts are not important…
  • Gun arguments would tie RV.Net up forever. I think it's best we all stick to our own opinions.
  • Couple of thoughts... Guns are pretty much illegal in Maryland. The political left feels as though guns are horrible. Therefore it is almost impossible to get a concealed carry in Maryland and we do not have reciprocity with concealed carry permits in other states. I don't agree with the premise at all. I feel that a competent person with a handgun is a good thing to have in spades.

That being said, it sounds like the officer was conducting an investigation. I don't know why the vehicle was stopped or how the officer learned that the driver was a gun owner... but he was conducting a legal investigation. He got information from the wife that contradicted the information from the driver. For whatever reason, the husband and wife gave conflicting information. The wife advised the officer that her husband was committing a crime, that crime being illegal possession of a concealed deadly weapon. The officer then had probable cause to believe a crime was occurring and had a right to search the driver, occupants and vehicle.

The law sucks. I don't support the law. I think law abiding citizens should be able to meet reasonable criteria and carry a weapon. I don't make the laws and the liberal left that rules Maryland doesn't agree with me. At the end of the day it sounds as though the officer did the right thing ACCORDING TO THE LAW.

Its unfortunate, because the driver had not committed any criminal offense... however the officer had probable cause to believe that the driver had committed the offense because the wife advised she thought the gun was in the car. It sounds like an honest mistake by the wife, but legal actions by the officer.

Nothing sketchy about the story it was written by a Tampa newspaper and made many headlines around the country.

Say good by to this thread also!
  • It was a made up story and you should not have posted it. The citizen was not abused.

    Abused?

Having a CCW requires the individual holding the CCW to be 'responsible'
Few CCW holders fully recognize that requirement and understand what the responsibility is for just having that permit.
