preventing rat damage - is it possible?

In the past week or two, both my RV and my car have been damaged by rats. I am pretty sure it occurred in the neighborhood's RV storage lot, since the RV can park only there and the car is there when I am driving the RV.

RV damage - They ate most of the firewall insulation in the engine compartment. Not yet repaired.

car damage - They ate the wire which the engine computer uses to tell the transmission when to shift. $120 plus towing and a bunch of wasted time

I don't know what to do. Bait stations? An ultrasonic thing like Rid-a-Rat?

Suggestions please. Nothing 12V or solar. Thanks for any ideas you can provide.
  • If possible have a light on at night under your hood or lay it on the under carriage of the vech. Rats do there thing at night if there is a light they won't bother you rig. Other than that the old wood spring traps seem to work better than anything else I've used, JMO.
  • If you poison, use what is called an impacting formula. It hardens up in their intestines like cement.

My cat and I might be open to workcamping. He solved the rat problem at our last place :B.

Don't put out poison without researching the ingredients. You might kill rat-eating pets.
  • You could move to Alberta... we don't have any rats - seriously! We actually have a "Rat Patrol" to make certain of this!
