The OP was talking about the many CGs that have closed, but singled out KOA franchise fees for the reason that KOAs closed. If it was all about franchise fees, drop the franchise and stay in business. But a lot of the CGs that closed weren't KOAs to begin with, so there must be other reasons.
I suspect its more about operating and competing in a 24/7/365 business. And that's the one constant in any consumer driven small business. Even if you aren't open to the public for most of those hours, you're still working if you expect to be successful.
