I have factory mirrors with built in blind spot mirrors and I can see down both sides of the truck and trailer with no issues. Only time I worry what is directly behind me is when I am backing into a campsite. Then the DW gets out and uses facetime on the phone and shows me what is there.

I am in this camp there is no need to see what is directly behind you unless you are backing up. Get a good set of mirrors preferably factory tow mirrors vs. some sort of add on and be sure you can see down both sides.
