There are times when my decision about how hard to hit the brakes is affected by how close behind me someone is. Maybe there's something in the road I'd rather run over than get rear-ended.
It also depends if I'm driving my nice truck or my old one... if I'm in the old one and I have a reason to hit the brakes, you just better not be tailgating at the time. My nice truck is 17 years old and is a low mileage cream puff with twice it's blue book value invested in it. I REALLY don't want it getting hit.
A rear camera doesn't replace proper mirrors, but I can't see why it wouldn't be nice to have. Heck I've considered it just for my empty pickup because I have a short driveway and have to park about 1" from my house.
