Credit card companies, banks and credit unions are becoming more aggressive in protecting accounts. If you plan to travel out of state, call the holder of your card and let them know so they can remove any blocks on your card for the states you will be traveling through or in. We always have to call when we head to Florida for the winter to "open" our card for use out of state.
It's not hard, it helps protect you (having a card canceled due to fraudulent charges from another party is a pain even though you're covered financially) and the holder (bank, credit union, etc.) of the card from fraud. It's no big deal IF you are proactive before you leave on a trip.
