The vapor density of gasoline is 4.4, meaning that the fumes created by evaporating gasoline sink to the ground and collect in low spaces. My reefer is about 6 feet off of the ground. If the vapor created by fueling somehow ever reached that height, in the correct flammability range, there would plenty of other ignition sources besides your reefer.
I'm with you on this. The amount of gasoline and fumes and the concentration needed to reach from my tank to the fridge area to reach ignition densities would be...well, let's say it would be quite noticeable and uncomfortable.
I think studded tires on your car would be about as likely to cause an ignition. - Winged_OneExplorerI know I should turn mine off. But I have forgotten on more than one occassion. Still here.

So informative and persuasive. No doubt, RVers everywhere will now be turning off their fridges when fueling - D___MExplorerThe vapor density of gasoline is 4.4, meaning that the fumes created by evaporating gasoline sink to the ground and collect in low spaces. - IslandmanExplorer III turn off the propane and run the fridge on 12 volt when traveling; that way I don't have to remember to turn it off when refueling, or getting propane, or woory about the guy refueling his vehicle in close proximity to my fridge. Also don't need to remember to turn propane off when taking a ferry, as it's already off when we get to the ticket booth.
- mowermechExplorer III just don't worry about it.
The fuel filler on my coach is on the rear, on the driver's side.
The refrigerator is about 20 feet forward, and about 5 feet off the ground, on the passenger side.
If there is a flammable fuelvapor/air mixture that deep around the gas station, the cranking motor commutator sparks will ignite it when the vehicle next to me starts up, and we are all dead! - fj12ryderExplorer IIIPretty good summation.
