The assertion that one can't tow a recreational vehicle here in Canada with the propane tank(s) turned on is rubbish. Towing laws fall under provincial / territorial jurisdiction, not federal, so there is no such thing as "a Canadian law" that prevents such practice. Having lived here all my life I know of no laws anywhere here in Canada that forbid such practice, the obvious exceptions being travel through tunnels, over bridges, etc, in which case a warning to first pull over and turn off the tanks will be clearly posted. The following is a typical towing guide as it applies throughout the various Canadian provinces and territories.
Provincial / Territorial Towing Laws
Do what you like ... I've always towed with my propane system running, always will, whether here in Canada or the US. :p
Do you have a more up=to-date reference, other than someones web page from 2000?
As far as the subject goes, I think everyone should do as they see fit. However, if there is such regulations somewhere ( i don't know where & i'm not going to search them out)then they should also be ready to deal with whatever happens (idk, maybe just being told to turn it off?).
The other thing that strikes me as funny, is, if you are on the freeway, when do you get a chance to turn your gas off, as you approach tunnels? I don't think that happens a lot!
If one studies the properties of propane, then you might get an insight as to why this controversy.
For the record, we have found that the fridge stays nice & cold during our driving without being on. One time last summer, i left it on & when i stopped, the fridge was off, but the gas was still on...No sparks or open flame aroumd that for a while!
