Protect your expensive electronics

All of my audio/video/computer equipment is behind a UPS both in the RV and house. The rest of the RV has an EMS and Autoformer. Power fails sometimes no matter where you are. Electronics doesn't like that. As a tech geek there is quite a bit of $ involved.

but please don't get one of the $90 specials. get a multi-functional one for $250 and up that will protect against problems other than high voltage.

From, 'it won't happen to me', 'it hasn't happened to me', and I don't have the extra funds for one, etc.

I'll go out on limb here and 'assume' EVERYONE here that owns a home HAS homeowners insurance on their house. Which is rarely used on the if come of a tornado, tree falling on their house, fire etc.

None of which are a common 'daily' occurrence. And many can go 20 years and never have a claim. Yet everyone has home owners insurance.

Then it comes to the RV which hooking up to electric IS a COMMON daily occurrence
and yet there are those that say they don't need the insurance of a surge protector?

I really do respect others opinions but when it comes to the fact that one can actually 'prevent' an accident from happening for a 'one' time purchase of around 100 bucks and choose not to is just shocking. No pun intended.

The average cost of an RV taking a surge hit to replace the appliances that are affected is around $3,000. Not to mention what you find out down the road what it affected behind the wall wiring. Seen it first hand.

100 bucks versus $3,000? Seems like a no brainer to me. Just saying.

a good point. those that say let it burn and the insurance will pay for it should see if their deductible is over $267.

It toasted my $1200 side by side fridge freezer and my deductible was $500. Now I will take my portable EMS and hook it up at my summer place after I use it on my winter RV. I get year round coverage and it's cheap insurance.

Let's see a few hundred bucks to protect all my electronics, including ham radio seems like a very wise investment. If your AC or other electronics fail, was it just a bad unit, or was it exposed to frequent electrical fluctuations. In the last two years, my EMS has shut down the electrical on at least seven different occasions at different parks due to electrical problems. The most frequent is low voltage. You won't notice low voltage during normal use, but it plays heck on an AC system. On one occasion, the voltage was down to 102 volts. I notified the park, and they asked everyone to shut down their AC until they could get it fixed later in the afternoon.

Like I said it's about accepted risk, you do not feel the risk outweighs the cost. Does not make your opinion incorrect.

6.5 years and only had one issue... brownout on the circuit. Everything made it through fine.
