Protecting Front of Dinghy

We just bought a new Honda Fit to be my daily driver, but also to serve as a dinghy. DH is researching tow bars, etc., but we were wondering ... What are the pros and cons of protecting the front of the Fit with a bra vs a "brush-type splash guard," or is it enough of an issue to bother with either one?
  • a brush type splash guard if too low can kick up stones, etc. making the situation worse.
    bumpy
  • Try and get some information on LLUMAR clear bra protection film for the automotive industry. It works, on just a velicle, not sure when it's behind a MH. Also there are other companies, 3M, etc.
  • The unfortunate truth is that after being towed for many thousands of miles, the front end and windshield of the toad will get pitted up. However, any rock or gravel getting under that bra will really scrape the heck out of the paint.

I too prefer the Protect-a-Tow, or the similar Roadmaster Tow Defender, which is what I use.

The hula skirt and the hanging shield are both pretty worthless.
  • We have a Fit and were going to go the PAT route, but our MH exhaust comes straight out the back and turns downward. I contacted the folks at PAT and they didn't think that it was a good idea to use their product with this exhaust (heat related problems).
A "bra" would have to be a very nice one as a cheaper one would cause the paint to be scratched.
  • Ah, YES! Now I remember seeing one of those. Looked like a great idea.

If it weren't a brand new car that I'll be driving every day for business, I might be less concerned.
  • After paying a body shop to fix the nicks and scratches on the front of our toad from road debris, I installed a Protect-A-Tow guard, and haven't had any more problems. The PAT even keeps the back of my coach cleaner, and only takes an extra minute to hook up.
