Can anyone tell me if a 1989 f-150 5 speed (over drive) manual shift can be pulled 4 down? I have a sweet running 1989 and would like to take it with me on some trips.

Exactly! Towability depends on lubrication. Many manual transmissions are splash lubricated. The splashing is done by the cluster gear, which only turns when the engine is running and the clutch engaged. When being towed, the mainshaft and output shaft bearings do not get any lubrication. Catastrophic transmission failure may occur.
