The Equal-i-zer is not an entry level hitch... not even close to being one.
The Pullrite is a premium hitch in the same family as Hensley and ProPride. The Equalizer hitch is simply another friction based WD hitch that a dealer will use as a 'come on' to get a customer to buy a trailer by throwing in the hitch. It is not even in the same hemisphere as the premium hitches. The Pullrite, Hensley and ProPride
control sway, the Equalizer only
mitigates it. That is a huge difference in function along with all the parts that keep loosening up on the Equalizer and the lubrication that constantly needs to be applied to the pivot points. While the Equalizer is just another friction based hitch, the Pullrite is actually a fifth wheel hitch in function mounted under the bed of the truck. It tows much more like a fifth wheel than a regular tow behind trailer hitch. A new PullRite is around $3000 and has the ability to rotate on the pivot point up to approximately 75 degrees, unlike the $450 Equalizer that does not provide any rotation function at all. Watch the PullRite video on their website then compare that function to your Equalizer hitch. You might be impressed with the PullRite.
Pullrite does have a few drawbacks that include needing to slightly modify (reroute) the exhaust pipe on most trucks, is custom made for the truck, takes some space underneath the truck if clearance is an issue (on a 250 that should not be an issue), and it weighs about 400 pounds, substantially heavier than most other hitches. But it works like no other hitch with it's ability to rotate on the pivot for cornering on it's track and with the pivot point about nine inches behind the rear axle towing performance is remarkable. But with remarkable comes cost and I am confident you will not find most dealers willing to throw in a PullRite just to make a sale on a trailer.
