I bought this RV hose at Lowes. It was packaged up pretty good and I could only see one end. I noticed that the end had more metal in it than you usually see and thought it was better quality than us...

WRONG !!! Hose threads are not the same as pipe threads. A close nipple has a pipe thread on both ends.
EDIT. A hose threaded double male adapter is what is needed and they are dificult to find.
EDIT 2. Garden hose connectors have 11.5 threads/inch, NPT (National Pipe Thread) for the same outer diameter pipe has 14 threads/inch.
