I would think the low battery didn't have the power to extend the jack due to the weight load. Retracting was aided by the weight on the jack. If it works fine once charged up, I wouldn't worry about it although I would test it a few times.
I disconnect my battery if it's not going to be used for awhile, and throw a charger on it before connecting for a trip, if necessary. You can get a quick disconnect for it.
