While living in Italy for three years, we had our car fueled by people smoking and operating the pumps....nothing catastrophic ever happened. At first I was very uneasy, but then just went with it, never saw any fires or explosions.....not to say that it won't ever happen. Cale
Reminds me of my job at a gas station / garage when in high school. One of the guys, a smoker would, test fate, play chicken when filling his own car. He'd take a lit cigarette and place it close to the handle while pumping, laugh at us while we backed off. No explosions, no fires. Personally, thought it was just a matter of time until his luck ran out.
What do I do when I'm taking on fuel? Being that the gas cap on my TV is on the driver's side, refrigerator in the trailer on the curb side ... never give it a second thought.
