question on cancelling a site on reserve america

Whatever the identification and reservation change policies, they are not the policies of Reserve American, they are the policies of the RV park or other facility contracting with Reserve America. You might get better information directly from the campground, as opposed to a booking clerk at the reservation company, who has a few classes of rules he must use, now information about exceptions policies. What you want to do, give your reservation to another party, is exceptional in the reservations business.

The reservation and/or the cancelation fees amount to nothing but site insurance for most of these people, it’s a cost of doing business for them… it’s cheaper and easier than planning a vacation months ahead… those cost are small in the grand scheme of things…

A problem you might run into, depending on the campground is when your friend arrives. Will they have to go through a gate with an attendant? That could cause issues. And if staff sees someone leaving and another person taking the site, that might raise a brow. I would just call the campground and let them know what is going on. It's the right thing to do. The park deserves the right to know who is staying in their park. If by chance your friend has an issue or some trouble is caused, they might be looking at you as the registered camper.

This is the best way to do it. Pre arranged time (late night)via the computer and be on the phone with each other and notify him at the exact time you cancel.

Life's not fair, so let his friend get the reservation. I have no problem paying cancellation fees as my plans sometimes fall through, but if a friend wanted to go I do my best to help them out. I've even posted here when I couldn't get the time off for a Yosemite trip (upper pines).

Pick a late night pre-arranged time, say 10:30 in the evening. He is on his computer and you will be cancelling on your computer. If you are not together just be on the phone together.
He has The RA site on with the campground, dates and camp site.
He watches and as soon as you cancell, the site shows up as available, and he clicks on it.
We have never had a problem doing it this way.
Just don't do it during the day time or someone else will grab it.

Actually your friend is getting an unfair advantage over someone who may have been trying for months to get a site. Being your friend does not give him priority.

Heck, I have stopped for stop signs when you couldn't see a car in any direction for miles around. I never wore a seat belt until it became a law. Then I never drove without one. I'm a "rules is rules" kind of person.

But I do not see how helping a friend be the lucky person next in line breaks any rules. And anyone who made 8 reservations for the same date should be paying 7 cancellation fees

I would contact the campground and explain and ask if you can let you friend have the other week. Most campgrounds probably don't care as long as they know about it and the site is paid for. If you make any changes or cancellations thru Reserve America, there will be a charge. Do this right away because if you have to do it thru Reserve America, the closer to the date of reservation, the higher the charge to you for changes or cancellation.
