Every time someone new comes here and post something that's been discussed before you'll always have that one person that tells him to run off and "Google" it.
I have an extensive list of often-discussed subjects that I provide. I hardly think that's harmful.
That, and googling common-knowledge subjects which provides much better answers than on here has nothing to do with closed threads.
Harmful?
No.
Unfriendly, cold and perhaps a bit stand offish looking?
YES.
Sometimes it is all too easy to simply paste a couple of links and never explain anything gives the wrong impression to others..
Perhaps explain that it is a popular subject that has been hashed over multiple times nicely, then give them your list of links, then INVITE THEM TO COME BACK AND DISCUSS ANY QUESTIONS THEY MAY HAVE AFTER LOOKING AT THE OTHER POSTS IN YOUR LINKS..
You will look more like a hero instead of a zero.
The one that really floors me is the folks who simply tell someone to use the forum search or google searches..
Our forum search engine is pretty lame and barely gives usable results.. Don't see that too much on this forum but other forums I have seen that response as the normal and I would be put off by that myself..
