Regarding lube, any all-purpose grease at Walmart would work. Regarding leaving the hitch head on the coupler, it can be done, but I think it'd be a bit of a pain to have to undo that before you hitch up again, considering how heavy that hitch head is... I'd just lock it up in the front storage compartment of the TT--that's where it usually sits in storage for me anyway. FWIW, when camping, I simply place the hitch on the ground and place my double-propane tank cover over it. Never had any issues doing it that way...
