Quite the winter this year...

Have had many weeks of below freezing temps and lots of snow since early Dec. This is extremely unusual for us around here nowadays. Have over a foot of snow now and got another couple inches overnight. For the first time in the 13 years I've been here, I had to get the skidsteer out to clear our driveway so DW could get to work. Our TT is definitely not going anywhere for a while. Pfffft....

Contrast that to Feb. of 2010 when we had the winter Olympics here. It was so mild that they had to truck snow in to the events from 100 miles away. It was so mild that the grass was growing like crazy and had to be mowed.

I've never seen such wild swings from one extreme to the other. Last summer was damp and cool but the summer before that was when we had a prolonged hot & dry spell and plenty of forest fires. I have to wonder what the weather will be like this coming summer.

  • Fairly mild in the upper Midwest. We had one Arctic front where temps were below zero for days but otherwise light on snow and severe cold.

I just keep telling myself that old MN adage, though: "March is our snowiest month".
  • Having one of the warmest / hottest winters on record in north Texas.

I thing five days in 2017 over 80 and only 3 days below freezing.

Looks like the Trans-Canada (401) highway near us. Some people (the idiots among us) just don't understand that it's better to just stay home, even if you lose a day's pay or that snow tires are a pretty good invention and a necessity. Gotta love all the news stories on TV any time it snows and drivers are slip slidin' all over the place. Our AWD Subaru is pretty good in the snow but the truck stays home until it's all melted even though it has 4WD.

    I'll prognosticate: Hotter than Hades.
